not to hijack the other thread.... who all has had a hatch of lady bugs? I mean there were none yesterday. This morning I hunted in one area and then drove down to another to help a buddy track a deer (we lost him, it was a bad shot). So I get back to the truck early afternoon and they are hovering all over the air and crawling on my windshield. I thought there must have been a hatch right there, until I got home (an hour drive away), and the front porch was covered in them. I know we usually get a good amount of lady bugs in the fall but I haven't seen this many all happen at once before. Has all of middle TN had them hatch on the same day or what? they are more precisely timed than cicadas... who else is seeing them?

I've seen two posts in my FB feed about copious lady bugs. Must be a TN thing.

Nope. My place has been absolutely covered with them over the last two days here in Indiana.

Someone posted a news link about kudzu bugs swarming. I wonder if that's what they are. They look a lot like ladybugs.

I think the culprits are Asian Lady beetles. They tend to be more yellow/orangish in color. Also stink a bit more than the red ladybug. The kudzu bugs are swarming some here, but they are more brown with a somewhat squared body.

What ever they are, they are all over the front (sunny) side of my house. It was covered with them, stinkbugs, and wasps today while the sun was out.

They technically aren't ladybugs. They are asian lady beetles. When I started reading about them, they are actually pretty cool. They are beneficial because they eat other insects that are bad for gardens.

Either way, the vacuum cleaning with the hose extension takes good care of them.

There were tons of them out when I went to check one of my cameras today.

I hate hate those things. I would rather have a spider on me than a ladybug.

When I lived in the dorm in college (14 years ago) we had a bad infestation of them. The housing department wouldn't do anything about them. We would have piles of them in the corner of our room. You'd wake up the next morning and they would be in your sheets and everything. It was nothing to have 100 of them in each corner of your ceiling. Ever since then they disgust me.

My mother in law gave us a vacuum she hadn't used in 6 months. When I emptied the bag, the thing had about 2 dozen LIVE ladybugs. Apparently, they can live at least half a year on dust mites or something in an unused vacuum! \:D
