You do not need to take up the base boards.

Will I not need base boards off to lay laminate?

Nope. You will want to finish off the baseboards with a quarter round type molding after your flooring is down. If the base is painted. Prime and paint the quarter round before you install it. Countersink your nail holes, fill with wood filler, let dry, lightly sand and finish off with a second coat of paint. It will look sharp!

Really you could get by without measuring if you set your piece against the base board and mark where it needs to be cut. Just make sure all cut ends face the wall so your joints butt together.
Before you finish a room you will be an expert.
As for me.... I hope I dont ever have to lay another floor did it for 10 years. Tile,Wood,Carpet,Vinyl,Shower pans.. had enough

It just hard work when you do it everyday. But you save a lot of money doing it yourself.

You can totally do this! Take it from me - I had to teach myself and you sound like me; I'm not a "Mr. Fix It" type. It's not bad, door jams can be a little more labor intensive, but then again some trim guys are smart enough to cut those high as well so the folks that built your home might have already cut them high enough since there was carpet in the room. Still, I would have a little hand saw made for cutting door jams handy (ask for it at Lowes or Home Depot and they'll know what you need). Just don't get in a hurry cutting your door jams and try to make a good straight cut - even if it takes a little while.

After you've got the floor laid then you can worry about cutting shoe mold or quarter round. For me, that is the most difficult part. I actually found someone to cut and nail my quarter round in place for me on CraigsList for like $150. For me, it was well worth the money paid not to have to try to cut the angles and cope the trim myself. I probably gave up too quickly, but my time and stress was worth $150 then.

Yea I have done it before. It turned out decent but I began noticing flaws in it. We moved and I found a guy that laid the floor and 1/4 round, about 450 ft, for like 400 bucks. They did a great job and it was worth it to me. Also he saved me almost 200 over lumber liquidators price. So for basically 200 bucks I had my floor laid. Well worth it!
