Small, 4 inches or so, sorry I cannot remember exactly and my Dad is no longer around to ask. One thing I do know. They can be prolific beyond comprehension. I think I planted ten plants, not knowing, and I could have set up a roadside stand. I was taking them to work in Kraft grocery store bags. Finally dug them up.

Your pic's are great.

As for tough and stringy, yes, it is my belief you waited too long to pick. I see several in your pictures that are considerably larger than I prefer. When they start to show you the "seeds" in side and have that rippled look they've been on the vine too long. But, if you're just now picking you have several more pickings ahead I'd say. I'd hit the rows every few days and keep an eye on them.

Beans have been doing good for about 3 weeks now I pick a minnow bucket full each day.
Have been eating fresh beans every night stir fry in olive oil and garlic. Had the wife can a few cases too.
Threw a batch in the pressure cooker last night.
Hard to beat fresh green beans.

Yeah, mine are still coming, too. I assume the upcoming cold snap will be the end of it, but I've had my fill.

Yeah, the freeze ended it, but what a phenomenal bean season. This was my first year growing beans, and I was blown away by how prolific they are.
