Dad and I went back to the Chick today. I worked a 12 hr shift last night but dad called and wanted to try and go today...so I figured we would go and just stay a few hrs. Well...needless to say when the fish are biting, you don't need sleep. Lots of people fishing down there again...about 90% of which are crappie anglers. Last time we were there, we just had bass tackle and caught quite a few on crank baits.

This go around, we had crappie gear...grubs, tubes, etc. And wouldn't you know it...we only boated 3 fish on those, and only one was a keeper. I grabbed my crankin' rod and threw it out there as we were trolling a ledge...and bam bam bam. Dad soon followed suite, and once again, we had several nice crappie. Biggest one was 14.25 inches...the smallest was 10 inches...while the rest were between 11 and 12. Ended up with 20 keepers that we got in the boat...and lost a few more at the boat that woulda kept too. Gonna have to get a net I guess. LOL. All in all...another great day on the water with my dad. And dad has some good eatin' ahead of him now too.

Oh...and I dunno what kind of fish these were...we never could get them to bite...but I couldn't believe how many there were down there gorging on shad.

From the graph I would guess stripers.

Get some of those live shad to slow troll through there and Hang On!

Awesome catch and yes I have to agree with fishboy1, probably stripers.

Awesome catch. My Old man's been down there every day. I won't give up chasing the deer to pick up a rod til January when we start trolling. We'll have to get together one day and you can go with me.

I've actually not even been in the woods this year after a deer. I think I shot bows so much during the later winter/spring/summer for tournaments that it's almost like this is a good break from it. If I look out from my house and see a big buck in the field, I may gank him with a ML or rifle later this season, but I just don't see myself heading to the woods this yr for a deer. I've got a lot of other hobbies I've missed doing. My only exception is the LBL quota hunt that we drew...and that's just because it's LBL.

Crappie fishing is one of those hobbies I missed. I guess I'm a weirdo but I would rather eat a crappie any day of the week over a deer. I can eat deer but if I was given a choice between it and crappie...it's crappie every time.

Dad went down there yesterday but I was working and didn't get to go. He thinks he found out what some of those big arches are from the sonar images...caught a 30 lb drum in one of those spots. Not ruling out them being stripers either...as much shad that are being herded up in there, I'm sure a little bit of everything is coming to feast.
