Nyper-that is the main reason I no longer hunt the 113 acres across the road from me. There was one other issue I won't get into that involved drinking and loaded rifle. But mainly the landowner would tell me one thing, then tell someone else the same thing and it finally reached the point I just pulled all my stands. Fortunately, I do have a couple other pieces of property just as close that I do totally control and have a super relationship with the owners.

In most instances I've found public land to be less of a pain to hunt than most people think. In some ways I get more respect and courtesy from other hunters that I don't even know. I know others have horror stories about public land, but I've run into more heartache on private land than public by far.

I'm with Lost Lake. I have killed a ton of deer on public land and can't recall ever having a problem with other hunters. My problem with public land is, I have private a lot closer to me and don't have to worry about stand theft. It was my opinion that for many years, Cheatham WMA was some of the best hunting in TN private or public.

The only problem I had on private land was with the owner of one piece, not with other hunters. He, the owner is an alchoholic and we just did not gee-haw. The other pieces of land I hunt, I seldom see the owners. Around Lebanon, there are many small, 25-100 acre pieces of land that people are glad to have you come hunt. They hold a lot of deer and are easily reached. You just have to know how to ask and for most, it is bow only.
