OK I'll comment on this from the outside. Public Servants - of which I am one - are popular targets for RIPublicans trying to rattle up the folks against people who work just as hard as the rest of you. Now I don't know the particulars of this but if history is a judge I wonder how Mr Nicely would do with an audit on him.

In my state they have been beating the crap out of State and Municipal workers - all kinds of stuff about how they could do it better privately. Well bring it on boys. If I wasnt under union scale I could easily justify a 20K raise to match the private sector. Sometimes its better not to get what you wish for.

This guy is a typical witch hunter.

I would love to see the actual findings. The article was very vague about what was actually done that was improper. You can bet that people like Niceley will try to blow this up as big as they can.

I would like to know if someone was behind nudging the comp controller to do this audit, or was this is regular-scheduled audit—this thing reeks of more of Nicely's TWRA temper-tantrum, and will certainly be fodder for him to use in the future!

How does Sen. Nicely (which is an oxymoron) interpret the follow statement

Auditors did not suggest criminal wrongdoing or assign blame for the mistakes, most of which appeared to involve small items or sums of money.

To this:
“It looks like the agency is out of control,” said state Sen. Frank Niceley, R-Strawberry Plains, the East Tennessee lawmaker who has been the agency’s most frequent critic.

He has been harassing TWRA for some time now and I suggest they look into Sen. Nicely's motives. WHICH IS STRICTLY FOR PERSONAL GAIN and he attempts to abuse his position in an attempt to gain control for deer farming profits. Sad !

http://www.comptroller.tn.gov/repository/SA/pa13054.pdf

Read it for yourself.

I see a lot of didn't fill out paperwork properly, didn't put an equipment tag on something, etc. The article talks about inappropriate purchases of computer items then goes on to say that the state (above TWRA) had not properly defined the items, something out of TWRAs control. One of the "inappropriate" purchases was a book for $13. It was not allowed because it was a "political" book.

The gift cards that were "inappropriate" were purchased as prizes for a kids fishing rodeo.

I am sure Niceley will try to make a mountain out of this, but frankly, EVERY office of EVERY agency could have similar findings, including the offices of our elected officials.

Thanks for linking the report, Robert. After reading the whole report, it is pretty hard for me to see any "out of control". JMO.
