Saw a TWRA press release that there are several hundred leftover permits for hunts in November and December and AEDC is relatively close to me. Is this place worth getting a leftover permit and making a two-hour drive to hunt?

The deer herd is pretty low compared to what it once was.

AEDC is loaded with deer. Don't understand why everyone is so down on the place.

This was the camp beside us.

They are there. Yes they are not there in the numbers that they use to be but there are pleanty of deer there. Lots of timber has been cut there in the last few years but all you need to do is find a ticket and a tree to climb on the down wind side and if you wait til 11 AM you should see a deer. The areas that the permits are to be sold for still have some pretty good hunting on them.

One thing I don't like about AEDC is the same for all public land. I just pick at AEDC because I can get there in about 20 minutes. Some yahoos get there 2 hours before 1st light, set up 200 yards down a long powerline right of way and think they own all 5,000 acres beyond that part of the powerline right of way. Try to pass them and they start whistling like birds. You have to have 10 potential spots to go to to find an unocupied place then you end up driving around when the sun is coming up trying to find such a spot where nobody is sitting. Just doesn't sit well with me. Especially when the deer numbers are a shadow of what they used to be up there. Of course if the deer numbers bounce back so will the hunter numbers....that's why I bought more land of my own.

Its loaded with deer. I have hunted there a BUNCH in turkey season and have seen up to 35 deer in a single day. Get as far off the road as possible and stay in the woods.

I turkey hunt aedc about every weekend and its supriseing to actually see a deer. I think I saw 3 or 4 last season. I hunted the quota hunt last year and killed a small doe. Didn't see but 3 bucks in the campground. I don't think the numbers are there like the used to be.IMO
