Yes, Rackseeker, that is a drawback to my plan. However I killed twice last year after I left my climber two different nights.

You are dead right though. I'm going to have to quit being lazy.

Would you have left your rifle if it was gun season?

I hunt from a climber 99% of the time but very rarely leave it even over night.

I dont hunt much public land, but when hunting private, i will leave my gun in the woods when I KNOW I will be there the next morning. Problem is, when I wake up and the wind is wrong, I will go somewhere else and I dont have my gun with me \:D . I do it on rare occasion.

If I'm going to leave it in the woods, I bring a few rope on tree steps that I use to leave my climber 10 - 12 ft high in the tree.

When i got my ole man, the guy told me to remove the pins and put 4 locks all keyed the same. That way i could leave it at the base of a tree and cover it with brush. I have never done this and if i do it will be on private.

When I'm hunting private land, I like to attach my climber the day or mid-day before using it for the next morning. I have never left it out longer than that.

Regarding the scent, why doesn't a ladder stand present the same problem or a shooting house or blind for that matter? Is it assumed that the ladder stand/house/blind will have been out there much longer and the deer grown accustomed to it? I always spray down my climber with scent killer spray. One issue could be the padded seat of the climber and no pad (or only mesh seat) of the ladder. How much scent is metal going to give off?

I think it is more a risk of thievery than a scent problem, but I may be wrong.

I'm on private property. I lock it with a chain. No way I'm carrying my bag, my crossbow, and a 34lb treestand every time.

I've got a summit that has been on the same tree for 2 years on private land. I've got a camera nearby and the deer movement doesn't seem to be affected at all. I also feel that since it has been there for so long the deer don't pay any attention to it. I also have a lone wolf climber, but I always bring it out with me.

sometimes. I will leave the tree lounge out for the duration of muzzleloader/gun season.
