Apparently, farmed fish won the taste test. I think modern people's taste buds are just so spoiled and overloaded that they don't know what tastes good anymore. Farm raised fish tastes like cardboard.

Ya, I salmon fish in northern MI every year.
I'll never buy farm-raised salmon from the store, big difference imo.

I know farmed shrimp are about 10 levels below wild-caught. they are pretty much tasteless.

Depends on the fish. I would not consider buying farm raised salmon but when it comes to catfish, I prefer farm raised. What makes it ironic is that its pretty much for the same reason. I don't trust catfish out of our river systems because of polution and the meat seems allot cleaner. I never see mud lines in farm raised catfish. Farm raised salmon on the other hand not only does not taste as good as wild caught but it turns out that farm raised salmon in the US can have high levels of PCB's.

I'm the opposite on catfish. Farm raised catfish tastes like cardboard to me. It just has no flavor. Now, I am picky about the waters that I eat catfish out of and I prefer rather small fish: 1 to 3 pounds. While I do love catfish, I probably only eat it 4-6 times a year. I'm not a fan of keeping fish in the freezer for very long and I think I only went catfishing once this summer. I did eat a whole lot of largemouth and crappie this summer -probably once a week.

I agree Poser, folks today need to rejuvenate their taste buds with balls, scrotum, gizzard, frumunda cheese, brains, taint, and other delicacies.

Nothin' but love...

I think most people no longer know what fish actually tastes like, and try to avoid anything that is "fishy tasting." That would explain why they prefer bland, indistinguishable farm-raised fish over actually tasty fish.

I think people have adapted to farm raised because 95% of all fresh water fish is farm raised and around here you don't get a whole lot else unless you want to pay premium dollar for some flash frozen fish thats been frozen for some undetermined amount of time. I personally don't like the taste of mud lines or blood lines. Don't like oily mackeral either. I just don't live up to my Anglo Saxon heritage.
