I bought Core 4 Element's rain gear. I've only had to wear it once but it was pretty good. I dont know how it compares to other rain gear, but it's not 'silent' but its also not loud.

I would LOVE some Sitka gear.
Does anyone make something comparable in quality (off brand?) that won't cost me a months salary?

I am a little late to this dance but will chime in anyway. The quietest low nao fleece rain gear, I have used is Rivers West. It is water proof and windproof. It has zippers, under the arms, for venting. Check out Cascadedirect.net for ordering. the H2P is the original....

I have Rivers West rain gear. I think its perfect for the reasons you describe, however, it is heavy and not very packable for the purposes of Western hunting. Also, due to the brushed fleece lining, it is hot. For the most part, it is too hot to wear during turkey or bow seasons, for example, so it could also be potentially too hot for humping mountains out West where temps can easily reach 70 degrees. Its really 50 degrees and below rain gear and, if you are doing strenuous hiking/climbing, it will be too hot for 40 degrees.

Hiking in the West can really elevate body temps. So am looking for light weight.

I did a military school where we traveled in snow. Would be down to just a t-shirt while humping along, but when stopped all the outer wear went back on, quickly!
