I've made several attempts at building dog boxes over the years, and never did make one to suit me. All of them turned out way to heavy. I finally found a affordable box that is light and with top storage. A Amish man makes them in Indiana. Luther Lenning in Mt juliet was going up and getting a few a year to sell. He may have some still. I bought mine at a hunt up their three years ago and can't find one thing I'd change about it. I think I gave 250.00 or 275.00 for it.

Agreed, friend of mine built one a while back it was real heavy, i had one years ago that wasnt so much heavy as "bulky" just seemed to be more than i needed even though i built it how i wanted it done..i have a heritage with a topstorage now i got about 5-6yrs ago andi love it. My advice would be buy one new or used, their worth it to me.

I bought an aluminum "Dee Zee" 2 dog box many years ago. (bought it at TSC) I like it pretty well, but I wish I had a storage place in it... lift the top to hold guns/collars etc. I've thought about drawing something up in auto-cad, but with wood it'd be hard to keep it light without going with flat 1/4" panel type sides and back.

Top storage is pretty much a must!! Very handy! I had couple nice boxes without storage compartmemt wont ever have one without now! Ill probably be getting something a tad bigger in a couple years but my heritage box is great for me now. I also have a 3 stall box with a top storage on each side..you canput guns in there no matter what your shootin(my heritage will hold a single shot 4.10 or 20)its made of all aluminum depending on size of dogs a man can definitly ride them in there! Id say itd hold 10 dogs my size, maybe couple more! Considered selling it few tikes it but i figure i may need it if i can line up a swamp rabbit hunt this year..it fits a big truck its probably 5ft long!

I would like to have a aluminum one,but they are high I don't go to trials or travel around just go close to home ,so cheap homemade works for me,been thinking about making one out of a old truck bedliner ,cutting it up then somehow making a box,it would be lite and water proof, yea I know its redneck and cheap ,but thats me redneck n cheap, the dog can always hide his face when we pass another truck.

Aint whats outside the box that matters its whats inside it!! I use to pull up with one made out of wood that was painted red with a red tin roof ppl thought i was about to let a little calf out of a mini barn lol always got asked why i didnt have a rooster weather vane on top! my box is nice now but NOTHING compared.to whats on the market like the diamond dog boxes and such but i like my heritage one lots of good dogs from my bloodline rode in it!!

I used an air crate for years. If I didn't have so many dogs and didn't travel, I'd probably still be using them. I just needed top storage and more room.
