Have any of you built a permanent back stop for your home shooting range? Thinking of building one to "catch" my shots. I'm shooting in an open field with nothing around for miles but I still don't like seeing my bullets bounce across the field after I shoot.

My idea right now is to set two 6"x6" posts and build a frame that would hold 12" lengths of sawmill lumber which would be replaceable. I don't think anything would make it through 12" of wood and anything that did surely wouldn't be stable enough to make it very far. Iv also thought about sand in vertical stacks of tires.

Anyone built anything similar?

We used to have one built out of cross ties stacked on top of each other.. I think one of them had to be replaced after several years of shooting..

Sand/Dirt is better, cheaper if you have a blade. I know a guy who has a downed treet on his property. He cuts a slice of it and uses that slice until it falls apart. This tree is large-he uses a crosscut saw. Another guy I know does a lot of casting and ues dirt in order to recover the lead.

You will amazed at how fast bullets tear up wood.
