I've been processing my own game meat & that of a few friend for a few years now & I keep feeling the urge to make meat-in-tube-form.
I have the recipes & principles down pat, but as yet I don't have a stuffer.
I don't really want to drop a lot of cash on one just yet (I know, buy once, cry once) until I know whether I'll be making enough each year to warrant the expense.
Can anyone recommend me a good, reliable sub-$100 machine?

Sub $100 is tough, but for around $130, you can get a Weston, small vertical stuffer. You definitely want a vertical stuffer.

I've been using the stuffer attachment for my grinder the last few years. It took a little practice to get the hang of, but it works fine. It's easier with two people.

I have the LEM 5# stuffer. I dont know how much you do, but this is great for me. All metal gears, easy to clean, and relatively cheap.

Common complaints on the horizontal and horn designs are that you get a lot of leakage around the seal. That means you are losing meat when stuffing.

My stuffer is all metal components with the exception of the silicon ring seal. I have heard numerous complaints about the lack of replacement parts for LEM's consumer and prosumer lines. They sell some replacement parts but not everything. One thing that I really like about Weston products are they they sell replacement parts for every single component of their stuffers and grinders. They also almost always have sales and free shipping deals running for direct purchases. The stuffer is probably a 30 pound package, so free shipping is a good deal.

Yep, the stuffer attachment works good enough for the limited amount of "stuffing" I do. I did get a foot switch for my grinder though. Pretty handy little gadget when you are working alone as it let's you have both hands free.

I used my stuffer attachment for the first couple of years. It does work fine. Its a bit slow and laborious, but if you are just doing small batch, it is definitely sufficient. The stuffer is also another item that you must disinfect. Cleaning up a grinder, mixer and stuffer is a 45 minute affair.

I used a horn-type stuff for the 15 pounds I did last week. In fact, it looked identical to the one pictured above. Poser's right, I had a ton of blow-by around the seal. I was probably operating at 80%.
