I was lucky to get my first few Dunstan chestnuts this year from the trees that came to Walmart last year. I am going to pot those nuts up to grow but would like to pot up some more if anybody has some trees that produced and could spare a few...

Thanks!

I had 3 trees planted in a row. The one in the middle died for no reason I could figure out. One of the 2 remaining trees made 5 burrs. Very sharp dangerous burrs...lol

I am thinking of either ordering or trying to track some down from walmart in the spring. Thought I would give real tree nursery a call and see who theya re going to distribute to this year.

They didn't come back to Franklin this year. I was disappointed as I was counting on getting a few more. Hopefully they'll come somewhere close this year.

I did get some of those trees. I bought 2 for $10.00 a piece. They are doing great, put on about 2-3ft of top growth, but the real growth came to the trunks. They have more than doubled in size. No burs this year, however some of my Chinese did produce (1-2 burs). I am wouldnt mind picking up a few more, I was not going to drive to Clarksville to get them though.

I got 6 or so from wallyworld about 15 months ago. I re-potted to get through the warm season and then planted them last winter. IMO they don't look too good, but I haven't given up on them.

How did the ones look at wally world last year? The ones I got were around 7 -8 ft or so.

Consider the Tennessee Department of Forestry hybrid Chestnut seelings. I think you will find they are a lot like the Dunstan. Dunstan is a patented name that can't be used by others. It's kind of like buying generic versus brand name.

I ordered 2 lbs of nuts from chestnutridgeofpikecounty.com last year, I have about 20 or so trees I grew over the last yr in pots that I transplant to their final destination soon. I think they are a hybrid but not sure if they are Dunstan.

I did that last year ordered a hundred. There survival rate was maybe 25% to this point. Many had the tops die but the bottom branches still are alive. I planted a 100 sawtooth with them alternating every other tree and got 90% survival out of the sawtooth so I'm not big on the TN forestry chestnuts. The dunstans have done good so I guess I'll wait till next year to plant what mine produce again. I need to many to pay 25$ a tree... Lol
