Should have put another arrow in it when it laid back down. Sounds like liver or guts. They don't move too much at a time before laying down with either.

Oh man... Hate to hear that for you... DO not give up, it has or will happen to everyone that hunts... it is not the norm...

Hang in there.... The deer will not be bothered by the blood...

I feel your pain. I lost the first one I ever shot with a bow 20+ years ago and it still makes me sick. Best thing to do is get back in there and bust another one. Good luck.

First deer I ever shot, I lost. 30-30 marlin. The next 30 or so, no problemo. Then I started bowhunting! Lol! Sometimes we get poo on our shoes. Wipe it off and keep walking.

In all fairness, I think I need to tell you that just because we were nice to you THIS time doesn't mean we won't roll you off a cliff in the future ;\)

Bring your Doe in if you must, but I hope she has a high threshold for idiocy.

lol Nimrod777,I am returning tomorrow and wish everyone who hunts tomorrow or another day better luck than me. Next week I am going to grow me some acorns and get the climber out and learn. Not having but one spot is for the birds.

So lessons I learned:

Don't go out in fifteen minutes looking for something dead-because it wasn't.

Don't try to blame a deer for your farts.

Always carry a loaded crossbow when you go in case it jumps you can try another shot at it.

And the most importantly don't text everyone excited about your deer until you are standing on top of it.

Lol, if we didn't make mistakes we wouldn't learn. (still don't change the fact I don't have any deer meat to cook.

I just about lost my first archery buck last year, a very mature one. I did not wait long enough to look. I hit him a little far back at 7 yards. Entry was high exit was low, would have been perfect if it was 5-6 inches farther forward. I am sure it was him that jumped up off the bed when I went in the thicket to look. Blood dried up leaving 300 yards of densely overgrown CRP full of deer trails and no sign of the deer. Thanks to a member here who offered to help the next morning, the deer was found dead by a creek over 450 yards from where I shot it. Your deer may be dead whether or not you find it, but go in there and kill another one and post pics when you get it. And always keep an arrow nocked. Good luck!

catman you honestly described everything about my incident. Same thing might have been high and exit low. Found white hair at last blood pile, also dense surroundings and looked 20 acres. There is a creek running right through where I am set up at. I might go out of blind around 12 tomorrow and look, don't think the meat will be good but finding it would most defiantly help my confidence and know what I did wrong.

Yes go and look after hunting tomorrow. If you get lucky and find her, the meat will be bad, but you will learn a lot about tracking and where the shot went. If you do find her, post pics. Did you ever make it down to the creek when you looked for her? if not, she may be there. follow the existing deer trails from the last blood down through the thick stuff all the way to the creek, then walk the banks and look in the creek bed. If it's anything like creeks around here, it will have very dense privet along the banks so you may have to crawl around a little to even see a deer lying under a bush. Also if she went and bedded by the creek and got back up, that would probably leave a bed with blood in it. best of luck
