"killed 2010""taken at end of seeason last year""killed today". it looks as each deer has the same turned tip on the left horn. all came from same farm .do you think this is chance or genetic? also do you think the cam pic of last years deer and the one i shot today are the same deer? if so he got smaller

No expert, but I don't think the deer from last year and the deer you killed are the same deer. On last year's deer, the right main beam swept wide and had a lot of length between the G3 and end of the main beam. The deer you killed a heavier, tighter rack with little length between G3 and end of main beam, and the beams are shorter -- plus the brow tines are longer. I just don't see much similarity.

As for the genetics question, you'll have to wait on BSK. But I will tell you that we have seen several deer around one of our farms with short brow tines that have G2s notably shorter than their G3s -- so my guess is there can be certain genetic traits that are common to a specific area.

It doesn't appear to be the same deer. Not sure if it is genetics since bucks usually disperse over such a wide area. Unless it was in the genetics of a doe. Yearling bucks disperse sometimes more than 2 miles from where they were born.

Southernhunter,

If you are referring to the turned up tip of the end of the beam, this is one of the most common beam shapes.

I say different deer, look at the amount of white on the muzzle of the trail cam deer vs the deer you just killed.

looking at the computer all the deer in the pics have a turned tip on the right horn "same shape", the left horn is not the same on any of them . i just found it to be interesting but was unsure if it could be related

I wouldn't consider the difference to be noteworthy. Now a sticker that shows up on the same spot on several bucks, or a split brow or G2 on numerous bucks, that's probably something locally genetic.

I don't really see much turn up of the main beam on any but the last one. Many racks will turn straight up and the main beam actually looks like another vertical point, kinda like the last pic. Look to be different deer in the last two as well.
