Anyone ever own one?

I bought 3 over the past six months. Really wasn't sure when or if I would get around to working on them. Well got around to looking at them over the weekend and they are the coolest atv's. Ten speed with reverse, oil cooler and speedometer. They were ahead of their time and are beast!

Really enjoy rebuilding older bikes and can not wait to get one of them out on a trail ride. \:\)

Here are some before pictures, will post up progress.

Should get it finished up tomorrow, if I can get my hands on some vinyl to recover the seat.

Nice job. My buddies up your way in Dayton have one they grew up on. Think it is an 80-something model. Not sure if their dad still has it or not. They all have something else these days.

Threads a little old but I have an identical one i picked up a month or so ago. Old beast runs good and is in good shape. Only problem with mine is it'll occasionally jump out of gear climbing a very steep hill. Can be kind of hairy cause the brakes ain't great.

When you say it jumps out of gear your talking about the hand shifter? If that's what its doing probably should start with the linkage. Make sure its not loose at the hand shifter or at the motor.

Had a Big Bear that started jumping out of gear and progressed to only being able to put it in reverse. It had a small bolt that had came loose on the hand shifter linkage.

That's what the problem is. I've piddled with the linkage and used it but haven't been up anything steep since. It didn't come out last time I used it so maybe I fixed it.

Best thing, I paid $122 for it, lol. My neighbor had it in his barn. We agreed to $225 but I only had $222 on me, then he gave me $100 back a few minutes later cause I helped him with something. I fixed the recoil starter and put some gas in it, pulled it twice and it started after sitting 5 years. so I put a battery in it the next day and cleaned it up and did some things like adjust the valves and change the oil.
I ordered some tires for it (the fronts were holding air but dry rotted and I decided to buy some rears too) and I have a starter clutch bearing to put in it too. It starts but its clacking. Even with new tires I ain't got much in it.

The 26 year old machine runs great. Already used it to haul a big fat doe out.

Sounds like you got a deal on it. Sold mine right after I got it done $950. Think the hi and low is very cool. Pretty much bullet proof.

If you plan on riding much I would change the oil in that rear end. Yamahas are known for getting water in around the boot on the swing-arm and making its way thru the seals around the rear yoke into the differential. They aint cheap.

If you need any parts give me a holler, got an 89 parted out.
