Well I got the 2 man ladder stand put up yesterday...alllll by my lonesome. \:\) I had purchased a set of those stand assistant things that you stick in the ground that keep the base of the stand from slipping as you raise it....well worth getting imo. Made short work of getting the stand raised being by myself. ;\) Just thought I'd pass that info along for anyone who may need it.

I love using ladders, but the set up can be a real pain at times, especially with the 20'+ models. Glad to hear those stand assistants have some value. Question for you - Does it do anything to help you stabilize the ladder as you go up to attach it? I was just reading a thread yesterday where a guy was up a ladder by himself disconnecting it from the tree and the ladder kicked out and he fell 15'. Landed on his back and he has significant problems to this day.

10 years ago I fell 17' and it totally changed my viewpoint on treestand safety.

I really like those 2 man ladder stands. Lots of room. Good info on lift assist tool.

CAW, I've also fallen from a treestand, back in '79, I believe it was, and my view on stand safety is pretty narrow as well, as I don't take unnecessary chances anymore. The "spikes", I'll call them, help steady and secure the stand during setup, but I removed them before final lockdown, and sink the ends of the ladder into the ground for max holding. This particular stand has about 2-3 in of leg at the bottom, with a thin(not a step) flat bar across between the legs to keep the stand from sinking any further. Hope this helps!

Oh, this was just the 15 footer too, and was just about all I could do to raise it with all the roofing and side rail framework on it. A 20 footer would be a tad harder still I would imagine, but the spikes would no doubt be indispensable if you were putting it up by yourself.

I know, and appreciate the offer DR. I just had to go get it done on spur of the moment when I had the time. ;\)
