"Trajectory for a 200 yards zero with a sight height of 1.5 inches"

I'm sorry. Does this mean.... 1.5" above ZERO @ 200 yards?

thanks for helping the dumb!

I have always thought ZERO meant point of impact at said yardage?
Guess I will learn with you. \:D

I guessing it would mean 1.5 inches high at 100 to be zero at 200. JMO based on what I'm reading but could be wrong and would depend on what you are shooting.

the 1.5 inches referenced in that dope is how high your scope is mounted,,if you have see through mounts say with the scope mounted at 2.25 inches you will have a drastic difference in where you would zero at 100 to be on at 200,,,a higher mounted scope would not need to be zeroed as high at 100 to be dead on at 200 than a compact scope mounted very close to the barrel.

It's how high your sight is from the center line of the bore.

Sight height is distance from centerline of bore to centerline of scope. Zero is distance where point of impact matches line of sight (bullet hits exactly where crosshairs are pointed). Some gun-scope set ups will actually have 2 zeros.

yes you will have two zero ranges,,one up close 30-40 yards where the bullet is rising from the rifle and will continue going up about 2/3rds of the way to your far zero then it will drop into your far zero,,how high your scope is mounted will effect the angles of this

Thanks for the education!

I never even thought about scope height effecting the actual trajectory. Bunch of dadgum geniuses on this website!!

For those that shoot a lot at distance and have a smart phone, I would highly recommend the knight armament bullet flight app. I know it's a lot but get the 30 dollar version. It is a ballistics calculator that does all the math for you and takes into account all the variables. (Except the shooter) I use mine all the time for muzzleloader and rifle data.

I like to think of two lines that intersect. One line is drawn through the center of the scope reticle out to the target. The 2nd line is the centerline of the bore. The bore line is tilted upward to compensate for the effect of gravity on the bullet causing it to begin falling the instant it leaves the bore. If the 1st line(scope centerline) starts out higher up, it definitely effects sight-in distances. A higher mounted scope will give less mid-range rise for a given sight in distance. But go too high and you have to lift your head off the stock which hurts your shooting.
