Deerchaser007, I forgot to mention that there will be about 40 acres ajoining the foodplot that will be planted in winter wheat. Would this make a difference what I should plant?

YES,... you should plant oats. As long as your ph is 5.8 or above... If its less,... you have no choice but stay with wheat.
