OK just got a new muzzle loader a CVA wolf outfitted it with a new Simmons 8 point scope and wanting to use power belts that are the light weight ones with the red tip... so my question is should I sight it for 100 yards or 75 yards.... very rarely get a shot over 50 were I hunt but want to be prepared if ever I get a shot over 50...

Ditch the powerbelts.Give the hornady FPB a try. They shot great out of my CVA.

As for sighting it in,the Wolf is capable of 100yd shots, just personal prefrence.Me personally,I like to sight mine in for 100yds.

I have a CVA Kodiak magnum. I only use 100 grains of propellant and a 250 grain Saboted bullet. Dead on at 100, 2" low at 150, not that I would take a shot that far. Just bored at the range and found that out. 100 is a good distance for ML, and it probably won't be that high at 75. Just know how high it shoots under 100 and you'll be fine.

I like mine sighted in at 50y,then I see where it hits at 100y,I have had to pinpoint shoot deer up close & no time to think when they are close.when they are not in your face it gives you time to think about any hold over or under jmo.

I've got a Knight and a CVA, and both are sighted at 2" high at 50 yds, dropping them in close at 100, but rarely would have to take a shot that far myself either. Just make sure you know where it hits for your application would be my advice. ;\)

Sight it in for the spot you hunt. 100 yard zero is a good all around setting. I have some of mine sighted at that and others at 150 and have made shots out to 160 right through the pumping station. I use Powerbelts with no trouble in all of the ones I have owned except an H&R which had a larger bore. But all guns are different so you might need to test. Most of mine do not shoot well with lighter bullets so I need the 295 gr to get accuracy with 85 gr of 777 loose or 2 50 gr pellets in a 50 caliber.

Look at the paper that came with your bullets for a nice ballistics chart for your load and caliber and learn the curve on your bullet at different ranges.

I would sight it in like you are going to hunt with it and then see what it's like at 100 so you will know if having to take a shot. When I use to hunt with my slug gun 75 was the longest shot we usually had due to trees, so that's where i had it but knew what it would do at 100 to 125 yards. I only carry my ML these days and have it dead on at 100, but with a BDC scope it's good at 50 to 250 yards on paper.

I have a new cva wolf. Sighted in at 50. 100 grains of pyradex and powerbelts. Have 1/2 can of the pyradex and will use it till it`s gone. Don`t like to waste powder. I am comfortable with a shot of 100 yds. Take it out and shoot it and get comfortable with it.
