What I thought was corn turns out to be sorghum. What about this plant do the deer eat? It got about 4 feet high and tassled out. Will they eat the tassles or the stalk or what?

It looked like they might be nibbleing on the head. When will the start to tear it up, after mature or after a frost? I need to mow it down to get ready for fall plot but I dont want to mow too early if they are going to start to eat it soon.

ditto Hook.... how do you mistake sorghum for corn? on a positive side, you are benefiting alot more wildlife than deer, and have a planting that is healthier than plain corn.

whether if you plant sorgum or corn you want to leave it for the winter. you will pull it out before they eat it if you replant for fall in that spo

It was a mixture and corn look almost identical to sorghum except the tasle on top is a little different. It was only 4 feet tall so I thought it didnt make ears because it was stunted then my brother calls and said he thought it was sorghum. I didnt some pic checking on google and they look the same except for the tops.

The deer love it on our place here in NC. Is it a big plot?
If it were mine I would probally mow a few strips and plant those and leave the rest standing. They feel very safe in it and will eat the seed of it later in the fall. They can wipe out a spot pretty quick.

Deer eat the seeds heads of sorghum in the late fall and winter. It is a source of carbohydrates/starches used for energy production, just like corn.

I just got back from thefarm and where last weekend the deer had nibbled on the seed heads on the sorghum, this weekend had to look pretty hard to find a head left. They have almost eat it all up. In two weeks at the most it will all be gone. Then it will be time to get it ready for a fall plot.

I planted it for the first time last year. They were hitting it by bow season and into winter.
