I haven't shot it yet. I plan to have a range session Friday in the predicted cooler weather. I plan to knurl all my bullets for two reasons. 1) Increase loading pressure. 2) The light blue sabots are so hard and slippery that I think a knurled bullet will bite the sabot better and not slip due to the 45-70 faster twist rate.

Sharp gun! I havent seen a stainless 45-70 H&R that wasnt the ultra. Good luck shooting and please post results.

You'll like it. Hope to shoot both my H&R conversion and my Savage ML this weekend in the cooler temps.

Thanks. It is an Ultra Hunter. I sold the thumbhole stock and ordered a composite. May not be as perty but I don't have to remove my thumb from the thumbhole to cock the gun. Besides, I want my gun to endure the elements afield. I'll post results this weekend.

Nice looking rifle... What kind of stock pack is that? And where you get it?

I bought them off Amazon. Free shipping if you buy 2 making your order over 25 bucks. They are the berries. I have one on each of my muzzle loaders. I don't use the external shell holders. I keep my powder charge vials, bullets, primers, spare breech plug and removal tool in it. It is slightly padded on the cheek area, making for a good cheek weld. Only available in right hand version.
