I listed a vehicle this morning and out of 7 texts, 3 were very aggressive scammers.
"I am merchant marine and I want purchase your vehicle . . . "
Do people really fall for this stuff? They would have to or the scammers would not be so numerous.

Got one last night within 10 minutes of putting a treadmill on there.

From everything I have heard I wouldn't waste my time putting anything on there.

I sell a ton on craigslist, scammers are just the cost of being free. To me.. they aren't near as bad as tire kickers, at least a scammer doesn't actually waste your time.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

You should scam the scammer. I've done it a couple of times. Last one sent me a Bank of America Check that was counterfeit. My ex wife handed it to a secret service agent. Lots of fun on that one.

I have sold a lot of hunting items on there with no problem. 99% of the scammers want your info., hold the item for them while they are willing to pay more, and will send you a check. The scammers email address normally have lots of #s in it, instead of letters.

Not a problem once you see a few. The delete button works great.... \:\)

if you put your number on there , mix it up by spelling out the numbers on a few ex... Eight 6 five etc...... This keeps the auto text/dial scammers from being able to text or call . Once I started doing that a few years ago I have never had another issue . They will still email you , but like GnB said those are easy to weed out .

I have had great luck with Craigslist. Probably bought/sold close to 50 items. Never dealt with anything too expensive (like a vehicle) though...maybe that is what attracts the scammers.

Just think... The scammers phish for hundreds of thousands of marks. If they are successful just ONE percent of the time, it pays to keep doing it.

Adding text to your phone number just stops the bots, not the manual scammers. You can also use your google voice number rather than your actual phone number, in case you need to change it later.

My bigger complaint are the no-shows, and people who try to lowball over texts.

Still, like someone else said, that is the price for the free service. Still better than the fees from ebay.
