Poured the lime and fertilizer to my 2 acre kill plot yesterday after finally getting it plantable following our summer loggers. On half I planted oats and wheat, on the other half planted daikon radishes and chicory. Throughout the entire plot I planted whistler peas and ladino clover(for spring and summer mostly). My guy at the seed store said whistler peas were as winter tolerant as Austrian winter peas but are more desirable because of the color of their bloom . Something about the color pigment was sweeter than that found in the austrian peas, I don't know about all that but I'm giving them a go. Also said these radishes had been his best seller this food plot season aside from oats and wheat, I'm hoping there is good reason behind it. Stupid me left the woods last night with the last words out of my mouth "it will probably be three weeks before it rains again now", wake up this morning and its been raining steady for about an hour. Thats why he's in control!

Where did you get your seed?

Skelton Feed Store in Linden. They have a pretty good selection and prices are fair. If he don't have what you need he can get it for you.

Finished all our plots yesterday and was super excited to see it was raining this morning. The radishes I planted a few weeks ago really needed the rain. I will have to go check out Skelton feed store. Is that the feed store by the lumber mill on 412?

Thats the one. They had sugar beets in as well but I have heard so many people say deer demolished their radishes I went with them.

Couple weeks of growth and things don't look to bad. Lower end of food plot not looking great, this is where our loggers had their landing and saw dust and soil was compacted so hard it was tough getting the bed just right.
Upper end looks a lot better
This is a look back at an area I had clear cut this summer, will start cleaning it off after deer season for trees.

I believe they have had the same luck I've had. I've been fortunate with timely rain.

Looks great!! I went and checked on our plots over the weekend and the turnips are really coming on. It must be the cooler temps and rain fall. It has been several years since we had our peas and turnips looking this good.

I've already been seeing a ton of turkeys in it. Tried to take some pictures of a group of 7 toms in it this past weekend. Now just for the big bucks

I'm trying to stay out of this plot as much as possible until muzzleloader and rifle season but went to check it and pull a camera yesterday, I don't know that I've ever seen white clover come in during the fall like this has.
