Well WGK I hope yours shoots better than mine.It is headed to savage tomorrow,When I got the rifle I noticed the back sites were drifted all the way to the right.the bore was dirty but the plug was spotless.no screw plugs for scope mount, the factory plug tool & handle had been replaced with a socket.I centered sight up but when I sighted it in guess where the rear sight ended up? yep all the way to the right.mounted a new scope set it for 40y,moved to 80y,it shot 10" left.I suspect the rifle was sighted in & returned when they seen what it was doing, being 5 hrs away that's not cost affective for me.It was a sad minute when I told my wife what I was going to have to do after all the $ & time invested to get this rifle.Hope they can/will change the barrel, the bore has to be off for it to shoot like that.Years ago I had a marlin 22 rifle that was the same way & suspected a bent barrel.I wouldn't have thought I would ever have this problem again.I tried 250g & 240g with a couple of powder weights & still prints the same, will resume testing if when I get it back,if no joy with factory what are my choices for a new barrel ?

Don't worry Savage will take care of it....
However if not, you can get ahold of Luke at Arrrowhead Sporting Goods
He sell replacement barrels and he will install them.
Sorry to hear about your trouble, bummer.

I had about the same problem with my stock savage.when you pushed a saboted bullet down the barrel it sounded like a zipper, and you could feel it ripping the sabot.Best I could get was like 3 inch groups.I bought a 45 cal pacnor barrl from Luke, and have never looked back.

There are several proven factory Savage barrels floating around now so finding another one won't be a huge deal if Savage won't replace it. Probly even be able to upgrade to a stainless barrel.

Did you call Savage and talk to them about it?

Mine too came with the socket instead of the tool to remove the breech plug. There were no screws where the scope mounts went. And my barrel was also dirty. Got we wondering now. I am still on vacation and won't get to shoot mine until next week. The only Savage rifle I owned before this was bought new and it had to go back to the factory because of problems with the hinged floor plate. But savage took care of it.

Can you define the socket vs. tool statement? I have a breech plug tool for my Savage but it's for the old style plug rather than the newer hex head plugs which I up graded to. So the new ones come with a 3/8" socket rather than a useless spanner socket tool?

And I would say that the reason the barrel is dirty is because they are all proof fired before leaving the factory.

The sight being slid all the way to the right is what tips it off for me.bought a lot of new rifles over the years but sights were always centered.too moch of a coincidence imo

I would check for a bent barrel. At Home depot, they sell .500 diameter aluminum rod that I use for a cooling rod. Buy one, roll it on something flat to confirm straightness, and see if it binds in your barrel. Second item would be is the scope mounted parallel with the bore. If it isn't noticeably off, then see if the clicks are centered left to right. In other words, turn the clicker clockwise and count the clicks until it Lightly stops at the end point. Return counterclockwise to your zero setting. Turn the clicker counterclockwise and count the clicks until it lightly stops at the end point. There will be a difference between the number of clicks in each direction. If it is excessively off to one side, something is wrong with the scope, rings, mount, or holes drilled in reciever.

mike, what did Savage say when you contacted them about the issue?

Savage barrels are hand straightened so one getting by still having some curve to it is possible but with the way this one is shooting it makes me think it's an issue of the barrel mating with the action.

Reading your previous posts I'm a little confused as to what happened. First shot you took was a dead bulls eye Correct? And the other shots that were on the target were the subsequent shots?

Think it started slinging left when he moved from 40 yards to 80. Think the target shown was at 40.

caretakers was bullseye, mine required rear site to be drifted all the way to the right at 40y,scope required a a lot of adjustment to bring it right at 40y.action/barrel pretty much is the same looking at the pattern.savage said send it too them, will be headed that way in a few days.
