I've heard from a couple of business owners where where unemployment benefits were allow even though there was "just cause" theft or other illegal actions and one employee that quit and went to another job.

How can this happen. Maybe the employers are not telling me something but it does not seem right.

Its easier and less expensive to let them have it than fight it. If you are busy running a business u dont have time to go to nashville once a week for a couple months. At least thats the case in our business.

Had to have a contractor require an employee take a drug test after an accident that cost me $1000.00 he refused and quit. Still got unemployment.

If you are the only one at a business that brings the money in it is not economically feasible to drop what you are doing and go to multiple hearings.
I've had people quit and get fired for stealing that still got benefits. The gov wants them to get the benefits so losing money fighting a losing battle does not make sense. I can give other examples if needed.

Years ago I fired a guy because he was marking items down and selling them to his buddies...stealing right? He filed for unemployment and we appealed..I was actually asked if we had employee training that told him this was wrong (we did) and he still got unemployment, I believe we had to go through 3 steps to appeal it but still lost. Unbelievable.

last july we had a guy call us and quit because he hurt his knee real bad over the weekend while playing at home and said he wouldn't be able to work with us anymore. a few months later we got his paper work where he was trying to get disability. He got denied for that. Then we got the paper work where he was filing unemployment. We turned in our objection to his unemployment benefits, he tried 4 times. He finally called us and said he wanted his job back that his doctor had released him to work. We told him he quit long time ago and his position was already filled. He then tried unemployment again and was successful this time because we didn't have a position for him after being hurt, while in is backyard playing football or jumping on trampoline or something.

Think of it like federal agencies having to find ways to spend the balance of their annual budgets at the end of the fiscal year. If they don't spend all they can this year, they can't get an increase in funding next year. Sucks to be a taxpayer and employer. It's the double pen.., well, you know. I do know I'll never have another employee, ever.
