Lots of great tips on this thread.

The single best financial advice I've every received or have to give is this:

"Live WAY below your means."

This is not the same as living "within" your means.
By living WAY below your means, you have more to save and invest, and your "means" can increase dramatically. At some point, even living WAY below your means, you're living WAY ABOVE where you would have been had you not adopted this philosophy.

And I know what I'm saying next has already been stated, but just to add a little . . . . . .

But quality items (usually more expensive at time of purchase) of lasting value as opposed to low-quality (usually cheap) items that don't last. If you avoid impulse buying, then research your options, and be patient, you can often buy quality for little more (sometimes less) than what many people are paying for crap items. And often a good used quality item can be of much greater lasting value, and cost a lot less up front, than a new low-quality item.

As an example, a rifle scope such as a Leupold VX-3 can provide you with a lifetime's worth of a very reliable, quality scope. Not only does it last a lifetime, but it's a very satisfying scope (compared to some of the less costly ones). Many people spend more than the cost of a VX-3 in going thru several lesser scopes over a few years before they finally seeing the merits of higher quality and lasting value. I'm not saying you should go without a scope if you can't afford something like a VX-3, but am saying you can spend more over time on less clear, less reliable cheaper scopes.

Lastly, value your time.
If you don't, no one else will either, and you'll waste much of your time doing things that not only don't make you money, but also cost you money.

Well put Wes. Save up for quality items rather than blowing money on stuff you know you're not going to be satisfied with next year. Same goes for tools and other household items. Not saying you should buy top of the line products every time but you need to buy quality products with warranties that you're not going to have to worry about for a while.

Ditch the $100 cable bill. I have not paid for TV in over a year. Don't miss it. Since then I'm much more active and my house/yard is in better shape. Go to the library and check out some good books and waste time reading. It's much more satisfying than watching some stupid reality tv show or hunting gimmick advertisement.

I also no longer get outdoor shows. This has cut my dumb hunting purchases significantly.

The problem in America is not that ungodly people have said yes to ungodly things, but rather that Godly people have refused to say "no" to ungodly things.
