It is not 100% necessary the plant will still grow with out doing it. Innoculants are rhizobia bacteria that allw the plant to form nodules to make nitrogen if you have grown legumes in the field before there are probably some present but may not be the ones needed for your peas to reach there full potential . That is just my opinion

It's like doubling your crop, IMO. The plant will get twice as lush

I'm actually going to experiment with the pea inoculant this year. We have planted winter peas before (no inoculant) but they have never done well while everything else in the plot has including soybeans. Here in a few weeks I plan to put inoculated peas in a few of my hoppers and then have a one hopper with non-inoculated seed. This should tell the tale.

Looks like allot easier application than the N-Dure. What kind of pre/post emergent are you using on the peas? I want to plant late enough where there is no weed competition but thats probably not going to happen.

Hi jmf if you are experiencing a weed issue in your peas there are several good products out there I like prowl h20 for pre emerge followed up by raptor herbicide to clean up the field . Since your planting in the fall may I make a suggestion that would be a lot cheaper and also create more food for your deer and control weeds . I would burn down my weeds with a good glyphosate product like power max wich is 48% glyphosate and add a little crop oil to heat it up. After a solid kill off plant your inoculated peas and let them get up about 4 inches then go in and broadcast rye grain. This does several things 1. Saves money and bare dirt from eroding in winter weather. 2. The rye suppresses winter annuals and also soaks up nutrients in the soil . 3. Creates two different browses for deer . 4. In the spring when you go in to plant your spring or summer plots (if you do) and you spray the rye dies wich then releases all the nutrients it has packed in its roots all winter back into the soil and also rye is a allelopathic plant so when it dies it basically releases a herbicide . It has been shown to reduce ragweed 43% green foxtail 80% common purslane up to 100% I hope this helps a little this is all just my opinion if you have anymore question on herbicides feel free to ask
