I have a crossbow that I borrowed from a friend last year since I can't pull my bow back anymore.

I got it out last week and shot it a couple of times.

He told me he couldn't remember if the dots were 10, 20 and 30 or if they were 20, 30 and 40.

I shot a coyote with it last year and it was dead on.

I replaced the battery before I shot the other day and I put the top dot on the center dot of a block target.
The target was set at 20 yards and the bolt hit very near the bottom of the target, about 10" low.

I then put the second dot on the center spot and shot again.
It hit higher but missed the target completely to the right.

Why would the sight be off so bad after a year of setting up????

Gonna try to re-sight it in, maybe this evening.

Where would you sight the dots in?
10, 20 and 30 or would you go 20, 30 and 40?

It is a tenpoint crossbow and when he bought it I think he had like $1,200 in the whole rig, so I assume it is thumping pretty good.

I just don't have any experience with them.

20,30,40 anything under 20 should be close to deadon. Zero in off a soft rest, could be the Indian and not the bow. lol

Unfortunately Xbows don't behave the same as rifles. A good rifle and scope "should" be still zeroed in after a year of sitting in the safe. A crossbow on the other hand can change point of impact after sitting for a year. Not always but more so than a rifle. Strings stretch, limbs get a little weaker, etc. Almost every year my bow will shoot a little differently than it did at the end of the season. I don't know how my new Matrix will behave, but time will tell.
Of course your scope might be the problem. Only way to tell is to re-zero and fling a few bolts down range.
I sight my bows in a little differently than most but it suits the way I hunt. I zero my top crosshair an inch high at 20 yds which gives me about a 30 yard zero. Second crosshair is good to 35 yds, the third one is about dead on at 40 and the fourth is zeroed for 50.

I shot it again a couple times this evening.

First shot was a dead bullseye at 10.

Second shot was a dead bullseye at 20.

I came to the conclusion that the other day when I shot, I was resting it on the deck rain and the monkey grass affected the string maybe?

Anyway, looking better. \:D
