What if that was an antlered doe? Would you take it this year, or watch it grow for 2 or 3 more years?
If an antlered doe, I would let her live a few years to see if her antlers grow larger, as well as to see if she actually grows new antlers every year. An antlered doe can become a "cactus" buck, where she grows the same set of antlers are her life and they constantly stay in velvet.

The pedicles are Huge on that deer for it to be a yearling, I would think hes a little older. At any rate the those are some knarly antlers, very cool indeed! I am partial to non-typicals myself..

tndrbstr,
It's very possible that that buck is older than a yearling, but we do grow some pretty good resident yearling bucks. Very common for our summer resident yearling bucks to have nice 6 to 8-point racks. Primarily because we have such a tightly-timed and early rut, meaning our resident yearlings are born early. It's the immigration of scrawny, late-born yearlings from other areas that really kills us.
I'm partial to non-typicals too. I would love to kill a really non-typical buck (points going everywhere), even if he didn't score well.
