I noticed that they have an after deer season hog season. Are there lots of hogs up there? I've read that there is a place that used to be a hunting reserve and that is the source of the hog infestation.

The other question I have are there lots of landowners that let you hunt them or is that a myth? I know in other states they whine about the hogs but then charge you to hunt them. \:\)

I've been to South Carolina hunting hogs in the swamps and I'm addicted. Since I can't get the landowner to give me a clear day to return, I'm probably just going to pay for a trip up on the plateau. It isn't that much more than the cost of driving there and staying and you usually get a big hog since they are fenced hunts.

Also, I've heard of a couple of WMAs that you can shoot them during big game seasons. I'm going to look into that as well.

Hogs are there, but don't go expecting to see some. They are hard to find.

it's a fun hunt just to get out of the house. it's a waste of time if you expect to kill or even see a hog.

I agree 100%, never been there but any reason to get out of the house is a great reason to go.

I hunted up there with some buddies a few years back and while there was hog sign everywhere we didn't collect any hogs. Beautiful country and a good hike every day and like mentioned earlier, it's a nice way to get back in the woods after deer season closes. Those old hogs are pretty durn crafty.

I'm thinking of taking my wife's stupid horse up there. \:D I pay every stinking month for that stupid thing, surely I can use it as a pack horse or something. :P

might want to check with the rangers office first. i was told you could not hunt off of a horse or tie one up and leave it while hunting

I hunt it every year. They are crafty animals and ive seen a few. You have to put in the time up there and really get " away" from the horse trails. Ive taken one out of there and had a friend take another a year or two before me. Beautiful country and we camp for the weekend and hike all over. Cant ask for a better place to get away and Iif you get out far enough ( certain areas have higher consentrations of hogs imo) you can get one. Its not easy I will tell you that but worth every second.

i guess i have killed as many one way as i have the other. i do love going into a bay when they got the devil hemmed up but i also love tracking them down without dogs also. i got way to many back, hip and knee problems to run dogs anymore. have to learn the ways of the pig ninja \:D
