Don't know if you are aware of this product but it comes highly recommended by several friends. Apparently very effective at mosquito control and can be used multiple times for a minimal cost. On sale at Wally world for about $4.00 I'm trying it.

Interested to hear how the bug band works during early season. Please let us know once you try it.

Thermacell for me as well. Thermacell is a butane operated burner that operates by heating a plate causing the mosquito pad to heat up and release the repellant—it can be worn on your side, attached to the treestand or many other places.

What type of conversion is required??

Supposedly there is an adapter to use so the conair cartridges will work. I believe some minimal modification of the thermacell is required. Not sure though haven't tried it yet. Just got the adapter.

Not sure if you guys have used Sawyers repellant. I have used it two seasons now and it is great. You spray it on your cloths the night before(only spray on cloths not meant for skin). Once it dries it is good for three or four washes. I have watched mosquitoes fly around my clothes but they won't land. It is the craziest thing. Anyone else used it?

Thermacell for me too. Anybody that says they don't work, must not of had it turned on. A buddy of mine was talking about how bad the skeeters were last year where he was hunting. I told him to get a Thermacell unit. He said he already had one and it was a worthless piece of junk and didn't work. He said he would give it to me if I wanted it. So we got together when he came to help move a treestand of mine, and an evening hunt. I had my Thermacell on my belt and before we got in the woods, I turned it on, clicked the button to light the butane...and he stood there looking at me puzzled. Long story short here...he had been turning the unit ON but hadn't ever lit the butane...thus I guess it really was worthless in the way he was using it. After he saw how it worked and that we had no skeeters around us, he decided he would keep his unit. Now it's one of the best things ever to him.

They for sure aren't scent free though. But then again...what truly is scent free? Nothing. Everything has a smell to it. Even the scent free spray stuff has a smell to it to me LOL.

Mine has been turned on, butane lit, etc. and I can tell no difference. I do what Henke 3663 does, I spray my clothes and hat, let them dry and never get bothered and don't have to worry about carrying something else into the woods. I have tried it numerous times on the lake, windy and no wind days, absolutely no effect on the mosquitoes.

Me neither. I have used a Thermacell in the deepest, nastiest, fermented mud, stagnant water-filled swamps this part of the country can throw at you. Thermacells work. You can see a cloud of mosquitoes huddling just around you, but not get bite. They do, however, take a few minutes to take effect.

If you tried it on the lake and the boat was moving under the power of a trolling motor , that may have been the problem . They work better in a stationary position . Try one in a tree stand , then get back with us .....

On one side of my parent's place, is a low and flat creek bottom. In rainy years (such as this one) it has lots of standing water that skeeters find a haven to. Those years are especially bad for getting "ate up" by them. I've been there before when the woods where just a constant "hummmm" where you could hear them by the millions; and in some cases, you could look up into the sky and just see little dark clouds of them. It reminds me of seeing them on TV when they would be in Canada or Alaska on bear hunts. I've been in those woods many days and came out looking like I had chicken pox all over again from the skeeter bites. Since finding the Thermacell, it's something that rarely leaves the belt side while visiting over there or going to work on stands. You've got to have it on even while sitting at a picnic table or something in their yard in the evenings, or the skeeters just wont leave you alone.

I have. As a matter of fact I have used it in a treestand, on the deck at supper time, in the backyard while working on a boat, dove hunting, etc. I also traded it in once for a new one. I understood you had to see the flame lit for it to work. In my opinion you couldn't give me one. I haven't ever really had trouble with mosquitoes anyways while hunting, but I tried it a couple times with clothes that were washed a couple of times, no permanone spray, and just the thermacell, won't do that again. It is not that big a deal, but I spray all my clothing and hats well with permanone and then let them completely dry and long before thermacell ever came out I haven't had trouble with mosquitoes. I got it more for camping, working outside in the summer and I burn the mosquitoe repelling candles because the thermacell doesn't work. Sorry I bashed the world's most favorite product, but I did and will again. I tell anyone who asks me that everyone but me thinks it is a great product.

Several friends who swear by it have gottnen out the thermacell out at a crawfish boil (my brother has one or 2 every spring) and they just say "well it works while I am hunting". I think it almost attracts mosquitoes. The flame was lit. Happened more than once.

I use permenone/ permethrine as well on my clothes . It Keeps ticks off my clothes , but doesn't keep skeeters off my face or exposed skin. You tend to disagree with most everyone on this post , so I won't argue with you . It really makes no difference to me if it doesnt work for you , as long as it works for me and the 98% of others who use one .

I completely agree Radar
Permethrin works great on clothes but not so great where its not at
Therma cell Works great imo
You all should try Off's cilp on Mosquito repellent with the fan i really liked it and think it worked as good as my thermacell while hunting

I only have just over 20 years with Permanone and have almost never had a problem with mosquitoes while bowhunting and I would guess I hunt more than most anyone, no matter the weather. The mosquitoes do not bother my exposed skin when my clothes are sprayed. I was really hoping the thermacell would work more for work around the house but no luck there.

True , but we all make that effort to reduce odors as much as possible . Do you wear scented deodorant , wash your clothes in scented detergent , wash your hair with scented shampoo , and use scented soap ? I doubt it , thats my point . ;\)

I can give you a list. we hunted yuchi a couple of years ago and I always use permethrin early season. the boy left his thermacell in the truck and had to go get it because he couldn't hunt for the skeeters. it was miserable without it. money well spent for me.

you know how there is always mosquitos in the truck when you get back from hunting? the wrist band will keep them out. I keep one in an old pill bottle and open it up when I leave the truck and put the cap on it when I get back.

Take an empty butane cartridge. Pull the Brass tip off with pliers (try not to damage o-ring in process). Poke a hole in bladder with a small finish nail (where brass fitting was). Refill with butane can 3/4 full. when you stop filling and pull away butane can it will spew so cover it with your thumb. grab the brass fitting, remove thumb, replace brass fitting, turn over and smack on something hard to seat brass fitting (doesn't take much force so don't SMACK!!)...Repeat
Mark your canister REFILL so you know it's been modified.
Never buy another canister...at least till you wear the modified one out from removing and replacing brass fitting.
It's on youtube.

Thermacells work! It is BY FAR one of the top hunting inventions in the last 50 years. I used to use Bug Tamer suits, sprays, etc. to try and keep the skeeters of South Alabama off of me. I bought a Thermacell thinking "what the heck, I've tried everything else". It works. How anyone can argue with the effectiveness of one is beyond me. When used correctly, there is no reason why they wouldn't repel skeeters from one user to the next under similar conditions. That just wouldn't make sense.

Thermacells are the bomb! I have 3.
One thing to look out for. The oldest one was getting hard to light so I picked up a 2 pack on sale.

One of the 2 pack doesn't get as hot as the others. It takes a long time to get up to temp and isn't as effective as the other 2. (thats the one I give out as a loaner to people who forget theirs \:D )

I'm a firm believer in thermacell. Whenever you have it on in a mosquito infested setting and don't think it's working turn it off and watch what happens. You'll have it back on in a few minutes.
