Just wondering, at what yardage do you set your first sight? Dot or cross. I normally don't shoot over 20-25 but now have some food plots to hunt from a ground blind and thought I may make some adjustments and get some 30-35yrds. Any of ya'll make killing shots on deer at 40-45 with Xbox? Thanks!

Never occurred to me to unplug my Xbox from my tv and take it in the woods and try to kill a deer with the darn thing—gonna have to try that sometime; however 40-45 yards seems like stretch....about 10 yards is about all I think I could throw it! \:D

1st is set at 22 yards and then keep moving the target at 2 yard increments till I get my dead on yardage for the other 2. After this is done will start at 16 yards and move in 2 yard increments to mark a ballistic chart. this way I will know exactly where my bolt will hit out to 46 yard. Even after doing this I keep my shots under 30 yards but I guess it's good to know I can reach out to 46 yards. a
Also, when I zero I shoot off a bench to ensure consistency.

Top crosshair is 0-30 yards, second is 40 yards. I shot it at 50 and 60 yards, but I don't remember what crosshair it was. I keep my limit at 40 yards. Yes I have killed deer at 40 yards with my crossbow, no problem.

I sight my top pin to be 1" high at 20 yards which gives me a 30 yard zero. Anything from 0-20 yards will be a little higher but still a lethal shot on a deer if you aim for the center of the chest.
My second pin is zeroed at 40 yards and my third pin is zeroed for 50 yards.
I have and will take a 50 yard shot at a deer under the right circumstances, i.e. the deer is at ease and standing still, is broadside or slightly quartering away, I have a clear shooting lane and I have ranged the deer and know exactly how far away it is.
I much prefer a closer shot preferably under 30 yards though and if I see a deer at 50 yards or so that is feeding or walking closer I will wait for that closer shot.

That is how I do it. That way you can get true yardage at each dot, reticale. This will also give you a "zone" for each also. For me the 1st reticale 10-28 yards, 2nd reticale is 29- 36 and so on. Again this is just my way.

This is my scope and I love it...
http://www.hawkeoptics.com/hawke-sport-hd-ir-2-7x32-3030.html
I have the scope adjusted/set for 10 20 and 30 yards exactly for the speed of my Excalibur Phoenix.
We will be hunting in very thick cover this year and are currently set up with our furthest shot at 20 yards maximum.
I know several hunters take longer shots with the faster bows but I wouldnt feel comfortable shooting past 30 with my Phoenix.
Good luck this season.

My first dot is +/- 1.5 inches from 0-35-yards. The second is +/- 2.0 inches from 35-45 yards. I have no idea where the third one is. I don't need it.
