what's a good entry level muzzleloader? Something that is reliable, accurate and won't break the bank.

I shoot a T/C Omega but I picked up a Traditions Pursuit Pro XLT (I may not have spelled the right) for a buddy in GA last year. It shoots just as good for less --- tears holes @ 65yds.

fwsteal, i would go with .50 caliber, lots more bullet choices. i would also look into the CVA Optima as far as rifles go. break action, easy to clean, and wont break the bank. DEER ASSASSIN will testify to this also..

I would recomend the Traditions Pursuit line or a cva..Get a break action in .50,the cleaning and maint. is alot easier and they shoot good..............

I've got an older one just like the Buckhorn (who knows what it was called 6 years ago) and it does great. The only thing I don't like about it, and it may make me buy a new one next year, is that cleaning is a PITA due to having to break it completely down to clean.
With so many new break-type actions available, if I was in the market now I'd pay a few extra dollars for one of them and save time in the long run.

I looked into the NEF Sidekick a couple of years ago and was pretty impressed at what you got for the money. I wasn't a big fan of the "break-down ramrod" but other than that, I was prepared to buy one until I got a sweet deal on a used Knight I couldn't pass up!
Good Luck!

Bass Pro has the Knight Wolverine 209 kit on sale this week for $199. Would make for a great first rig. I'm still using the old Knight MK-85.
