I know that we are early, but with the cool weather & abundant rain, I decided to roll the dice this year.

As many of you have experienced, our 20 clover plots are exceptional this year. We fertilized in the spring with 0-20-20 and kept them sprayed for broadleaf & grass this summer. With them looking so good, I just didn't want to stick a disk in them.

What we decided to do was tiller up strips equal to about 20-25% of plot and plant a mix of Biologic Maximum & Daikon Radishes in those strips. Since planting, we've had 2" of rain, and will hit them again with fertilizer in near future. In Jan or Feb, we will overseed with clover mix of Crimson/Arrowleaf/Landino and start the cycle all over again.

Now, all that is remaining is to get the other 17 plots planted with wheat/oats/rye & brassica. We sprayed those with Gly on Saturday, and hopefully we'll get them planted in the next couple weeks and be done planting. Heck, I might even get to shoot doves this year instead of working on plots!

Cool! I am planting some radishes and sugar beets this weekend. I may even throw in some wheat, rye, and clover and chance it. I have a feeling we will get an early frost this year.

We have 4 in new cutover that is scheduled to be sprayed as well. After they are done, I plan on planting winter peas & clover in them since Arsenal is not suppose to kill legumes. Don't know how that'll work out as our deer usually clip the peas off as soon as they sprout. Those 4 may be a waste this year...

Good for you! Got a job in AR that's under water for a brown top millet. Got 4 acres in TN that's been cut and sprayed, but needs disking and fertilize. Got a new property that needs all the work from cutting to planting. Then some waiting on the ag crops removed.

Hopefully this rain will stop long enough to get started but I'm running out of time

I am ready to get mine in but I am still going to wait. I have also observed that the deer eat it better when it is still tender. One year I planted mine so early that it was almost mature in November. It was very warm fall/winter. Wheat and oats had seed heads.

Labor day, weather permitting, will probably be my planting day. Poisoned some fields last week. Planting food plots is almost as fun as hunting in them.

Hope to get the rest of them done Saturday. 3-4 years ago we were finished by Aug 18th and had the best plots ever.

I got my turnips and radishes out a week and a half ago. Will be planting probably half of my plots in the next few days. I plant about this time every year. Im alot higher in elevation than alot of you are though with an earlier average first frost date.
