WHY would it choose the cantaloupe?? That is my favorite and I found remains of a fruit and fresh deer tracks. I picked a ripening cantaloupe with a small gash in it too.

I spent a couple of falls in high school working a for a farmer who raised 27 acres of pumpkins, which he sold to the local Freds stores. One field was in an area with a lot of deer. In that field, one out of every four pumpkins would be lost to the deer. They would use their front hoof to punch a hole through large enough for their snout and clean out the insides.

I have a local farmer that lost his entire cantaloupe crop to deer. All had a hole punched in and all the "inards" licked out.

He hates deer!
