I have a great 270 gun but hate to mess with it. The 300 is just sitting there with nothing to do.

I have been shooting long distances for years for fun. My teacher was a ex ranger sniper... who could do more with a gun than I thought humanly possible when he started teaching me. There is no replacement for time spent shooting your gun. I have a Ruger M77 Hawkeye in 25-06 with the 26 inch bull barrel and a jewel trigger that will drive nails at 300 yards. And I still very rarely will take a shot at an animal over 200. Just personal preference. Find a bullet your gun likes... get the best glass you can afford .. and shoot..shoot..then shoot some more. And as always that's just my happy opinion.

OK so I have a 300 win mag Remington 700 police. My opinion is you have to have good glass. I have a night force 12-42x56 (if I had it to do over I wouldn't get this much magnification. Its nice at 1000 but at 100 its hard to find what your looking for )with a 20 moa picatinny rail I also recommend a good trigger. I have a jewel trigger that is set on 9 oz then of course hand loads. I shoot berger 210gr vld they group decent from 100-300 but really preform well between 300-600 yds I have my rifle zero'd at 300yds which shoots around 6 in high at 100yds.

Download strelok app it is the best ballistics calculator in my opinion. I have made a range card with click per yds in 100 yd increments and laminated it them duct taped it to my cheek piece for quick reference. If I could figure out how to put a video on here I would post one of my wife busting a piece of 12"x12" steel at 600 yds.

I used to think 300 and 400 yds was crazy long range until I started hand loading and started studying ballistics. Now it isn't any fun to shoot less than 500 yds.

I have confirmed kills out to 775yds and have shot steel at 1068yds. Burn powder. Learn your weapon. Leave the scent lok at home and shoot them where they can't smell you
