Hello Boys!!! Been awhile since I've been on here, got a ? For ya'll. I've shot a 300win mag for along time and then went to a 270. Did a little renovation to my hunting property and now have some large to me food plots. I want to set my 300 up for this, I shoot an A-bolt 300win. With 220 grain hornady. My usual shots were 80yards. But now I have some 200-800 yard shots. What do I need to do to be able to shoot these ranges? Bullet weight? What yardage to set scope? etc..... If I can kill from 100-500 I'd settle for that. I really hope to hear from DA on this!! Thanks guys!

I own a Browning 300 WinMag with the BOSS and I shoot exclusively hand loaded 180 grain Nosler Partitions, Max load of IMR7828 not the sc, Fed 215M primers, Leupold 3.5x10x40, trigger worked on. Chronyed at near 3000 FPS. 2 inches high at 100 I am good for up to 300 yards. I don't think I can see a deer at 400 yards. Pretty soon I'm going to qualifying on the MSSA long range when I get the BOSS upgraded.

You need to understand your ballistics and know distances so mark you property in some way. To get to that 500 and up mark you need a couple of pieces of equipment and the time & place to practice. Mr. Big is your source for that kind of info.

BTW, my rounds are loaded out so far I have one in the chamber and one sitting in the magazine. Too long for two.

Should be able to get out to 500 yd with a little practice. First I would load and purchase some ammo with 168 Berger VLDs,(this is just my personal favorite) then I would get a good piece of glass. Then practice out to the range you plan to shoot and get to know your rifle at those ranges. Anything out to 500-800 yards is a totally different ballgame. Good luck.

Oh forgot to mention I still have the Remington model 7 I purchased from you a few years ago. It has become my favorite treestand rifle. Have done a little work on it since then. You still live out on the mountain?

Rack seeker....good to hear from you and know you still enjoy the rifle. I knew when you shot it bullet hole for bullet hole you was going to buy it. Wish I had kept it now! I moved to Alabama where I'm within 15min of 40,000 acres of hunting but still 30 min of the mtn. I lived on. I still have a 1000 acres on that mtn. So I'm in Hog Heaven!!!! That is the property that I've made the changes to and the reason I need to learn to shoot a lil further! I've put in about 85 acres of food plots on that 1000 acres and added about 100 acres of cover so I just need to learn to shoot!!!! I have a 22-250 that will hit a chigger in the eye at a 100 but I like a bigger chunk of lead for deer. Again, good to hear from you my friend!!

IMO to accomplish this goal

ditch the 220 hndy bullets

I hope you reload if not buy some real good ammo

for 350 or less
I am not real familiar with 30 cal weight in berger vld

but id go 168 vld or with 150 gn accubond

for 350 plus
180 to 200 accubond
208 a max
any thing berger vld 180 plus
chronograph
good no great scope zeiss IMO topped with tactical turrets
good shooting house with rest
light winds pratice
light trigger
point blank ballistic soft ware

i got to find my 500 yd jug shoot with mr big video

IMO i would not shoot over 400 with out actuall knowing my velocity and ballistic data for that round not the crap on th ebox or in a book but real world speed

Do what you are doing asking questions read all you can about long range shooting and practice. Most of all don't be scared of doing it.
