Has anyone hunted Montana for muley and/or antelope? I cannot seem to make myself leave WY for muleys, but the MT muley season runs into the mule deer rut in the SE portion of the state. I have looked in Custer NF a little bit.

My only drawback is I would miss our TN rut if I hunted MT in Nov. But I guess that would give me motivation to work hard for a early season deer here.

Check the Missouri Breaks...Never hunted there, but big Muley's. Plenty of public land, forest service and BLM. Additionally, about 20 years ago, allot of ranches were letting hunters in for the antelope, but had to pay for deer.

The breaks suffered a little battle with EHD I think, I need to look into it to see if its a general unit or HD unit.

Thanks

I have hunted the breaks region north of fort peck lake for muleys 5 times in the last 12 years. The deer numbers are ok but not what they use to be because of the harsh winters a few yrs ago but they are improving. It is a really fun hunt if you like spot and stalk style hunting and its beautiful country. I would look to a different area for pronghorns though because last I heard there numbers were still way down.

The breaks units I looked at are general units for deer wt and mule deer. One thing to keep in mind is CMR has different regulations then the unit itsself. The refuge closes earlier missing the rut you would have to contact them for the specifics.
