Also the tiles have to be replaced yearly (no battery swap). Seems like it would only be useful in a big city once the service caught on.

It would be very easy to drive by the local pawn shops to locate your stuff though. Wouldn't even have to get out of the car. The way I understand it, it will show you the location on your phone whenever any phone with the tile app is within range of the tile, but it does not show on anyone else's phone.

It would be handy IF you had an Iphone (why just iphone?!?!?!?!), and IF you knew of a potential location of your stolen object.

Wonder how a court challenge will turn out.

Somebody is stealing your stuff and you suspect a neighbor. Put a tile in your tool box and leave it on the porch. Next morning its gone. Run the app and yep.... pings the neighbors house.

Call the cops. Does it provide probable cause? Can they do a search or do they have to get a search warrant?

Besides the risks of being hacked, this could be a sweet anti burglary tool!

I don't think it is workable yet but I can see the technology coming soon.

This. The meth head punk thieves will steal any and everything they can lay their hands on to make a dollar or two to feed their habit.

or about 10 percocets. They don't care who they hurt or destroy, just feeding their habit.

They already use it to help with lost air travel baggage.

You put one in your suitcase and if it turns up missing the ap in your cellphone will help track it down. Right now it cost a little but should get cheaper down the road.
