Any of ya'll shoot Federal Premium with 150 gr. Sierra Game Kings? I've got 2 full boxes I picked up in a trade somewhere but I've never shot Sierra bullets out of anything before. Not sure of how they'll perform at close ranges. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/498935/...-tail-box-of-20

For those of you that don't shoot the Game Kings, whats your favorite 30-06 round? Leaning towards 180 grs. since I'm setting the gun up for a woods sit (shots >100 yrds).

I like 165 gr bullets out of my 06 or .308. I would shoot 150s before 180s for deer.

I only reload for my 06. I have used 150 grain Nosler partitions until last season, when we tried out Accubonds. Since 1984 from 75 yards to over 200, every deer shot has died, never traveling more than 20 yards.

150 is plenty of poison for deer.

And the Accubonds so far are living up to their reputation.

I've killed a few deer with 140 gr Game Kings in a 260, the bullets did fine and killed quickly. The Game King is a cup and core style bullet isn't it? I've not heard any especially bad reports on the Game King and they should do well for you.

I think so. From what I can tell, expansion and penetration lies somewhere between a Nosler Partition and a Ballistic tip. They are boat-tailed and seem to do well at long ranges. Just didn't know if I would have fragmentation problems on 50 yrd shots.

The GKs will work fine plus they have always been very accurate across several rifles and calibers-no worries.

180gr core lokts for me.... 06 is my woods gun... They rarely take another step. I prefer high shoulder shots.

i guess not. the 06 is a great round. the problem with them is that the loaded the factory fodder to such low pressures, due to the amount of old war rifles that are still use. you can buy bulk corelock bullets (not ammo) from midway dirt cheap. they can be loaded to 200 fps over the factory velocity. then they are truely devastating
