I was thinking today about my gear since I have buck fever, and it also might also be a contributing factor that my freezer door managed to open and ruin all my deer meat today. So...I need to shoot something soon.

But how many of you guys buy new gear on a regular basis? I was pulling out my clothes the other day and looking through them and realized I haven't bought any new hunt clothes since 2001!!! They are so old and faded I bet the deer are telling each other "watch out for that grey guy".

I'll be interested to see the responses because I have always wonder how manufactures stay in business in this field. Especially treestands, I think I've hunted out of the same cougar claw since about 1999.

I have been hunting 3 yrs or so and buy what's on sale at walmart for clothes, for the most part... whatever gets the job done really. Sorry you lost your deer meat... I got a bunch in the freezer myself that needs to be cooked up and made into jerky in the next 2 months...

I will pu a new pair of pants & maybe a shirt or 2,have 1 climber & 2 ladder stands,I don't remember using the climber last year & may never again. old stuff works fine but holes appear & patching don't make sense, might buy 1 more rifle to make a smokeless muzzleloader out of but I'm a bout done with rifle & shotgun buying unless something falls into my lap at a great price

I try to buy 1 new stand a year, and set a $200 limit on other hunting purchases. I look for good deals djring the summer and after the season is over.

This year was a bit more than that since I left all my old stands in WI so I bought 3 and climbing sticks.

156,
Haven't seen you in a while. Good to see you're still at it.

I often wonder that same question. But more often, it is about who in the world buys all these new cars and trucks?

I too, hunt in old faded camo. I usually wait until years end and buy last years clothing off the clearance rack, about every decade or so.

Other than that, occasionally arrows, Stingers, and boots. These are my most common recurring costs. Every other year, a new bow.

Not much on a regular basis. I wear clothes and use equipment until it doesn't perform to standard anymore. Still hard not to buy a new "toy" every now and again tho. \:\)

I'm still hunting with my 95 model HCA Max Force bow even. It still does just what any other bow does, maybe a tad slower. ;\)

There are way too many salesmen on this board who know my wife and report what I post to her for me to post a dollar amount. Let's just say it's a lot more than what anyone has posted yet.

Keep in mind, my wife and I live in an inexpensive house and pay cash for inexpensive cars so we can do what we want, when we want, and do it in comfort.

I used to buy a new gun of some sort every Spring. Not nearly so often anymore. Once I finally got a real warm parka I stopped buying so many clothes. Found out those cheapo coats I had been getting by with weren't really saving money. Now I mostly spend my hunting $'s on food plots supplies (seed, fertilize, lime).

Until I finally acquired all the equipment I felt I needed, I used to spend upwards of $2,500/year on equipment, clothing, stands, cameras, etc. However, once I finally paid through the nose for the best mid-layer and outer-layer clothing available, I haven't spent a penny on clothing. I still buy more cameras and more ladder-stands just about every year, my "hunting equipment" spending has dropped to almost zero.

Haven't bought anything in a while. Same hunting clothes for the last 10 years. Same deer rifle and scope since 1986. Same bow and muzzleloader since 2000. With what I spend every month having to pay for my kids health insurance, I could have bought a lot of things.

Looks like most of us spend our money in the same places. That's good to know if I ever want to start a product line or try to to say the least.

I'm still at it. I just don't have any time to get on here anymore. I spent the last two years verifying all of Fox Ridge Homes for energy star as well as Beazer. So I basically didn't have time to eat. I quit working with Fox Ridge this year so I will be on here a little more. That eliminated about 800 inspections a year!

I usually buy a couple clothing items every year. buy new scent stuff every year. some more hangers, just odds and ends. I buy a couple dozen arrows every year because I like trying new things. and this year im buying a new scope and range finder. I also buy a couple new stands a year. and as bsk I spent good money one year on a good base layer and insulated stuff arctic shield and that will last me a long time. I buy usually a new pair of pants and a couple of shirts nothing really special though.

I'm like catman, in that I buy clrx/sale stuff or army surplus stuff, generally. Things don't get replaced until they are worn out.

That is except for my wife and kids buying me some good stuff (like the LL Bean wool coat last year) for Christmas, Bday, or Father's Day. I also have found that I don't want to skimp on boots and socks, although I still don't go crazy on them.

I still own and use a bunch of military surplus clothing, especially wools pants and sweaters I wear as an outer-wear in cool, calm conditions. The only downside is that the military gear NEVER wears out. I'm literally using some U.S. and British WW II clothing I bought back in the early '80s.

Honestly, im trying hard to not buy anything for this season. I figure the less I spend and the more meat I get, the more money I save on food in the long run. If I were to spend a whole mess of money every year on hunting stuff and only got a couple hundred pounds of deer meat that I dont have to buy at the store, then it's ALMOST not worth it. In the end though, no matter how much it cost me, I would still be out in the woods.

I use my military base layer, pretty good stuff. Also, sometimes I use my military boots, there is no telling how many miles they have on them. Between Iraq, numberous field ops, and hunting it has to be a crazy number. And they are still in ok shape, still have plenty of tread.

I don't really buy (or even desire to have) much hunting gear... except for cameras. I wouldn't mind having a couple hundred of those lol Other than that between me and my dad we have 2 ladder stands, 4 climbers, a pair of camo pants each, shirt, coveralls, grunt, facemask, and a few other small items we use year after year. Haven't bought a rifle in 10 years.. no need. Have a 2003 bow.. shoots fine (I did just buy new arrows though) We do go through boots fairly quickly.. My dad bought me a $200 pair of Lacrosse boots on sale for $80 and they lasted a year. After that I'm sticking to the cheapos at tractor supply.

Yeah, mine are still going strong as well. I use them primarily for scouting and other hiking and they still dont disappoint.

I've been on both sides, buying all the latest and greatest, to now kind of being on the "cheap" side.

I have a good rifle or two, good shotguns, a couple of blinds and a couple of stands.

I get my camo at Academy and Wal-Mart, and my blinds and stands are not brand new (I did buy one new blind for me and my daughter).

I guess I just don't have the money like I did when I was younger, or I realized that new toys are cool but not much better than what you had.

That said, I still buy scent free soap, broadheads, ammo, etc. every year.

I buy gear as I need it, which also applies to clothes and if they are still usable i keep them. I have some pants form 1999.

Today i sighed in the ML, slug gun, and two rifles. I will be buying another box of Accutips and possibly a box of .270 soon.

Just depends on what i need.

Big purchases for me are few and far between.
2001 - bought a 99 grizzly runs great and hauls out the deer fine!
If I can I will by a gun every year if reasonably priced and used.
This year I have bought a lot of russell apx gear and I am highly impressed. I have found this stuff cheaper than most wal-mart gear and the quality is way better. I shouldn't need anything for many years! I would like some muck boots but I am pretty much spent out on gear this year.
