If you are, do you hunt with hounds, treestand or still hunt for them? Going to be still hunting myself.

I save my vacation for bear hunting..... AKA....armed forced marches during bear season.... and I have every day of bear season for the year off. I'll be chasing behind my pack of sooner hounds.

Never been on a bear hunt, but I think it'd be fun to do

Just moved here from Missouri where there are a few bears but can't hunt them. I will have a tag for archery season in case one stumbles down my path. Otherwise, I have no clue how to hunt them since you can't bait and not an owner of a pack of hounds. I will say that if one comes near it will quickly move up to one of my hunting highlights of my life.

Never really thought of bear hunting before. My son put out some corn to get an idea of the deer on a new piece of land he can hunt. The corn was out a little over 12 hrs when the camera started taking pictures. He had a little breakfast at 8:30am then came back for supper at 5:30pm. He stayed around until 7:25pm, and at 7:27pm my son is staring into the camera. Talk about an awesome series of pictures. When he pulled the card from his trail cam he found this on it. To say he is fired up is an understatement. How big you think this one is?

Not real big but a good example of a Tennessee bear. Probably 200-225 lbs

I didn't think you was. Bear hunters aren't like deer hunters

After looking at another couple of pictures the following day of my son standing where the bear was, the "rump" of the bear looks like it is a little above waist high on him, and he stands 6'-1" tall. Not real sure how tall this one will be, but he is more than big enough for Boy to want to let the air out of. Hope to have some more pictures next week after the next camera pull.

Usually hunt with a buddy who has hounds, but the early hunts where we go are getting a little too crowded for me. I'm gonna wait until the November hunt this year I think. It might just be me but it seems like the better bears are taken then. Could be wrong though.

I will be in upper bald. Wanted lower Tellico, but it got snatched up and we decided to get the first hunt rather than a later hunt in the area we preferred.

I thought about trying foothills this year. Never been on a bear hunt though maybe I should get with someone with experience

I don't really have much experience, I scout it just before season and then pick a spot that looks good to still hunt.
Been on it once about 3 weeks ago and found some bear tracks, haven't seen any in a couple years, so figured I check again in a few weeks.

I looked up the harvest history for the foothills. I cant believe there has not been any bears checked in from there.

Chances are they would have been checked in as part of the county harvest since there is not an on site checking station and most clerks don't care about the specifics when they are answering the questions.

I actually called TWRA about this several years ago. The Foothills does not have their own designation in TWRA's system. Therefore, they are all checked in under Blount or Monroe County. The same system will tell you that there has also never been a deer killed in the Foothills either, and I know for a fact that's false.

Here's a few pics from there that I have downloaded in photobucket.

Cub. I was picking and eating blackberries on the opposite side of the blackberry thicket from it's momma. Sorry I didn't take the time to get a pick of her. She did stand up on her hind legs and give me a good stare down. Would have made a good picture.

Bear noggin. It was also eating blackberries.

Marking tree. The bears had every pine tree within 50 yards marked. And, there were a lot of them. They'd been marking the same trees for many years as you can see with all the bark chewed off on the bite marks.

Front. These are bite marks around 6' off the ground.

Back side. Claw marks about 7' up

End of December.
