I'm not a taxidermist but hair comes off easily on every deer I kill. I would at least get other opinions. Didn't you kill that buck in Oct? To me the hide wouldn't ruin that quick in less than 24 hours.

It was likely ruined, but still a chance it wasnt. Epidermal slip is a tell tell sign of bacteria overload on the cape. As soon as the animal dies the bacteria attacks it, just gotta cool it down quick. If it got to 95 and the guts were still in him then it is definitely a questionable cape, and one I would be leary about working with.

If your taxi uses the dry preserve method then no way would he mount it, I tan mine and that tends to "set" the hair on iffy capes. However, nothing is for certain and only going through the taning process could I tell for sure.

If the deers neck wasnt too big, then a cape is likely to cost you around $125. Best bet would be to call a processors and ask them if you could buy a cape from them, a lot of people will bring in a 20" plus inch neck deer and just saw the antlers off. I you could talk with the processor before he might be able to help you out a litle bit.

Hardest part for you is trying to match the coat color, FC deer tend to have more red in them than some others.
