Hello all!

First post here. My wife and I recently relocated to the Nashville area from just west of Madison, WI.

I am looking at some hunting land in Marshall County. Can anyone provide any personal experiences and/or information regarding the quality of hunting in that county? What are the numbers like? If you consider yourself a "trophy" hunter, how big is a buck that qualifies as a trophy? Are there any qualities that are important for a property to have in this region (i.e. water, oak trees, ag fields)? I do apologize for the simplistic nature of that question. I "think" I know what to look for, but any pointers would be great.

A little background about my hunting style might make it easier to respond to. I am a hardcore bowhunter. If it weren't for hunting with my family, I would probably choose to no longer gun hunt. I consider myself a trophy hunter and attempt to only shoot deer in the 135"+ range. That is back home though and I don't know if it is realistic in Marshall county. Due to the herd reduction on our farm back home from CWD eradication hunts, I haven't shot a doe in years. However, I recognize there are a lot more deer here and I welcome the opportunity to harvest more animals.

I appreciate any help you guys can give me!

Jake

There are no deer in MArshall county at all. I would move farther east and hunt those west tn deer, Middle tn has horrible deer hunting.

great deer numbers for sure. 135" are pretty common, but certainly not behind every tree

Why travel to Marshall Co.? I see you are in Brentwood & some of the best places to hunt in Williamson Co. are properties there along with Franklin. Remember huntin within city limits in TN is legal.

land is much more expensive in Williamson but if you can find a place to hunt you're in luck, hunting is great here.

And Brentwood has some absolute monster bucks that live behind rich people's houses and do not get hunted much.

While I like the idea of hunting closer to home, I also like to hunt in a little more remote location. The farm I hunt back home has a series of landowners surrounding it that have moved to the country from Madison. I have had a few negative experiences with some of them and don't enjoy the prospect of repeating them. However, if there are big bucks to be had, I might just have to attempt to find some local land.

Are looking to buy or get on a lease? Williamson county does have some good deer but it hard to find a place to hunt and it is expensive. Just to give you some perspective, I just purchased 11.6 acres in the southern end of Franklin and it cost the same as about 150 acres out in Wayne or Perry County.
