Cut your cabbage up, doesn't really matter how but I like mine in chunks. It's gonna cook down anyway...

Cover and cook on medium heat for thirty to fourty five minutes, stirring occasionally. When it's just about done throw in some cheese and give it a good stir. Hope you have some cornbread ready. Now...cabbage so good that the kids even love it.

Never heard of adding cheese, either. At some point, it becomes Lasagna.

I assure you, oh great food snob that at NO point does it even resemble lasagna. Maybe next time I'll include some eyeballs, anuses, tongues and peckers just for your midtown tastes. Carry on...nothing to see here folks!

Looks good, but I like mine smoked with cherry wood, with the sausage, bell peppers, butter and bacon!

I'm not picky....I'll eat cabbage any way it's served to me. Sautéed, steamed, grilled, slaw, pickled, mixed with sausage, sauerkraut, etc.

The cheese part is lost on me, as well.

Yeah, that was my point. I don't think I've ever had cabbage that was bad. Sausage and cabbage is always good -just never seen it with cheese before.

If I was guessing, I'd say put it in about 90 minutes before the hog is done.

yep on a smoker,it depends on how big it is & how hot your running your pit, longer time to get it tender,it can always be warmed back up ,put some foil under it & after about 1 hr cover it up & let it steam ,good eats for sure

Looks good. I did the same thing basically with a fresh cabbage head a few weeks ago but boiled it instead of frying. I used cabbage, sausage, potatoes, and squash. Very good boiled and looks really good fried as well. Thanks for sharing.

I was thinking that a good way to do smoke cabbage would be to cut a whole in the center and stuff it with a hamhock.

Check this article for a different twist on cabbage. The pig ear prep is also unique.

In South/Central Florida we cook swamp cabbage(heart of a sable palm). Fat back, salt, pepper and stew it with some 'maters.
