This is the only fish I have not caught in on rod and reel that it seems everyone else has. Any tips or even a trip on the water would be great. Kinda of frustrating lol

Shiners or shad down deep? Smallies in the summer can be tough. Early morning bite can be good off rocky banks and points that drop quickly into deeper water.

Summer is tuff, first light top water may work, main lake points,18 -25 foot deep, small craw or jig.

Ditto what Football Hunter said. That's been my experience on Pickwick also. This time of year, I seem to catch more smallmouth at night on Pickwick along bluff walls, rocky points, and lighted docks. Had a night tourney the weekend before last on Pickwick and got on one point that was loaded with 16-17 inch smallmouth. Caught them all on a football jig dragging the bottom. The weigh in for every one was about 50/50 smallmouth to largemouth.

Summer is not tough at all if you are in a creek... bring a cast net, catch shiners and stonerollers in the riffles, carry them in a minnow bucket and toss live minnows (free line, hooked through nose) into eddies, pockets, pools, and areas where fast current from riffles dumps into deep pockets. Let those minnows swim around and the smallmouth will annihilate them.

Catman is right on the money here. Creek smallie fishing is a blast. It used to be all I did for several years. Live bait always works best but soft plastics work well also. Charlie Brewer slider rigs and anything soft resembling a crawfish.
