I wouldn't mind going there again...preferrably before Memorial Day or after Labor Day.

Most of FL is backwoods and FL Crackers.... How do I know this.... \:\) The road still in front of my parents place is dirt/sand..... \:\) You can drive a few miles from the beaches and travel US 1 on the East Coast.... Nothing but backwoods.... Great post and very true.... Lots of pines and sticks.

The only difference in FL and TN... We don't marry our cousins.... \:D

We came back Sunday from Fort Walton which is 5 miles max from Destin. We drove to Destin 3 nights (2 for dinner and 1 for shakes). When we left we went thru Destin because my kids wanted to ride the go carts. Ended up at the mall too and wasn't impressed by the Bass Pro. The traffic in Destin is nuts.

We love to go eat at the "original" Dewey Destin. That place looks like anything but a restaurant. Cool place! And my wife loves the lobster at the "light house"

We went to Dewey Destin one of the nights and it was an hour wait a d the kids were starving so we left. Ate at Harbor Docks, AJ's, The Angler, and the Crab Trap.

I liked the Crab Trap. I got the bronzed Grouper. I liked it! Pompano Joe's was also good.

And you're right. Traffic was nuts, especially Thursday evening.

For the longest time, my Grandmother's family had a farm just outside of Jacksonville. I remember there was a paved road to a certain point, and then it was either dirt or gravel, I don't remember. Lots of open pine trees around the place. Some of my fondest memories are from there.

I knew once we started seeing more of the open pine forests, we were close to Florida.

As for marrying cousins...that's in MS. 3rd cousins are ok in TN, though. \:D

Florida is a southern state that is flipped upside down. The further south you go in Florida, the more north you get and the more Yankees you run into. North Florida is pretty rural with country folks. When we went to Newberry, FL back in February for the ASA archery shoot, I was dreading having to contend with the Florida whooplah, but was pleasantly surprised. I wouldn't mind living in that part of Florida.

Very true. I was pleasantly surprised as well. It seemed more like Alabama than Florida. Like you, I wouldn't living in the North Panhandle.
