A little help here. The dang coons are tearing down my corn stalks to get to my corn a little early this year before the corn is ready to harvest. They usually wait till the ears are mature and in the past I've beat them to the punch so to speak. What have y'all had success with in keeping them out of your corn patches? Thanks and God Bless, Steve

All I can tell you is good luck.. I have completely quit growing sweet corn... the last patch I had was about half the size of a basket ball court... they started "bushhogging" it way before it was near ready.. I ran two strands of hot wire around it just for the coons and set coon specific traps around it.. I want to say i remember catching around 20 coons in the traps and still I never got 1 single ear from the patch... I gave up on sweet corn...

Yeah, those coons know exactly when the corn is almost ready to pull and can wipe out a corn patch in a couple of nights.
It's happened to me before and I feel your pain.
The only solution I have found that works "most" of the time is to put up a four wire electric fence. I start the first wire at 3" off the ground then have the next 3" above that. Then 6" or so and the top wire at around 3 feet for deer etc.

I also put a live trap between every other row just in case they somehow get through the fence.
Don't bother with a cheap fence charger either, I tried one and they [coons] just went through it.
The fence charger I use now is supposed to charge 25 miles of fence and is rated at 2 joules.
It's a little on the expensive side and a little bit of work setting it up but believe me it is worth every penny to keep those pesky little rascals out. It even works for squirrels which can destroy a corn crop in short order.
Good luck!!!

I'm with bigtex. Trap them and kill them or string up an electric fence.

My house has one LESS coon as of 4:30am 8/1/13.
Good old "Duke Dog Safe Trap" does it again.
My 'kiddy food' is safe again.

I had a rogue squirrel raid my little bit of late corn over the weekend. But I don't think she'll be back.
